Wood Fired Pizza and Italian Food

roseRosedale Brick Oven on Pine Ridge Road just east of Goodlette-Frank Road has excellent pizza!  A few years ago I hosted a business social there and everyone enjoyed the pizza and the ambiance of the restaurant.  For some reason I had not been back so when I saw a Groupon appear for $20 worth of food for $12 I decided it was worth the return visit.  I had remembered that pizza all those years!  What I love about true Italian pizza is that the crust is very thin and the toppings are the main feature of the meal.  Deep dish Chicago pizza and very thick crust are not something I like to eat.  In Florence Italy last year I had the best pizza ever, sitting outside on the road at a small table with a red checkered tablecloth, Italian beer and the beauty of Florence all around me!  Unfortunately this was not as amazing an experience but worth visiting just the same.

It seemed that the Groupon had very much helped their business and they were not prepared for the onslaught of locals on a Wednesday night in early May.  The service was not as good as it could have been; very slow to be served and the pizza took quite a while.  However, sometimes you have to allow for staffing problems and an abundance of business and I would definitely return again for the deliciousness of the pizza we were served.  The pizza is cooked in a wood fired brick oven and the choices of toppings are extensive.  They use imported San Marzano tomatoes and fresh local and imported ingredients for their toppings.  We started with the Wings Italiano as an appetizer.  Be warned this is definitely enough to be a main course!  If you like garlic these are the wingsWings-Italiano-495x400 for you just make sure everyone in your party has some because otherwise they won’t get near you for the rest of the night and probably the next day.  10 chicken wings topped with baked cloves of garlic and caramelized onions were a real treat.  For my pizza I chose the mushrooms and prosciutto; I was pleased I didn’t order double cheese because there was plenty of cheese when it came.  It was also very tasty the next day for lunch!

Toscana-pizza-300x215This restaurant has a great location on Pine Ridge, lots of parking and easy access.  For a weeknight meal or a quick bite this is definitely somewhere to consider.  Especially if you are looking for REAL Italian pizza!

Remember it is always toasty in Naples and you deserve your piece of Naples sunshine and to be reminded of a wonderful meal in Italy!
