February events in Southwest Florida

Evergladesvisitflorida_428x269_to_468x312February is the month for the famous Everglades Seafood Festival in Everglades City.  On the weekend of February 12 to 14 you can enjoy the 46th annual Seafood Festival.  Isn’t it about time you went and had a look?  Admission is free because you will need lots of money to partake of the delicious food available.  It is hard to choose what to eat so just try it all!  There is a midway with rides, arts and crafts fair and live country music.  Take a ride to the Everglades and enjoy some good ol’ fried gator!

Held on the same weekend the St Katherine Greek Fest should not be missed.  February 12, 13 and 14th you can say “opa!” and enjoy live music, dancing and of course excellent Greek food.  St Katherine Greek Orthodox Church is located at Orange Blossom and Airport Pulling.  There is fun for the whole family to enjoy.  See full details.

The following weekend February 20 and 21st enjoy a slightly more highbrow event with the 37th annual NaCambier parkples National Art Festival.  Located in Cambier Park south of 5th Avenue this event draws some of the finest artists in the country.  This festival has been ranked #9 in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine.  Admission is free but you will want to be sure to bring money as there will be lots of art to purchase and enjoy.

From February 23 to 27 enjoy the five day celebration of Marjory Stoneman Douglas.  She was best known for her work “Everglades: River of Grass” first published in 1947.  The author, journalist and environmental activist is celebrated with daily activities, workshops and presentations throughout the five days.  You can find more information at the Everglades Museum website.

Don’t forget that the 3rd St Farmers Market is now in full swing every Saturday.  There are lots of vendors offering produce, seafood and arts and crafts.
